Nor-Son built a finely tuned blend of modern architecture with a deeply characterized respect for the Marvin’s 102-year history. The building’s design incorporates complicated rooflines, curved walls, barrel vaulted ceilings, and numerous skylights. A two-story Chilton limestone fireplace warms slate tile flooring in muted gray tones. Fieldstone from Wisconsin was used as an exterior finish material while cherry wood can be found throughout as walls, windows, and doors.

A rural location and difficult weather conditions required creative solutions and experienced decisions.

The location together with a limited number of suppliers and subcontractors were difficult challenges for Nor-Son to overcome early on in the project. Unusually rainy weather made working conditions dangerous and unpredictable, but well-below-freezing temperatures a few months later made it nearly impossible. The building’s complex mechanical systems and a unique energy design called for external insulation and wrapping to protect against the frigid winter air. But even when faced with tremendous challenges like these, we were able to maintain a perfect safety record for the project with no lost-time injuries despite over 57,150 occasionally grueling on-site man hours.
