Nor-Son Inc. Build well. Be well.

YMCA

This YMCA needed to grow to serve its growing community—and stay open during construction.

The streets bordering the site were so busy, they had to be barricaded during steel deliveries for the public's safety.

Pool safety.

The YMCA needed to keep its doors open to the community throughout the project. Fortunately, in healthcare construction, we often work on buildings that also stay open while we work. So we were able to apply many of the same safety and cleanliness controls, allowing people to use the building safely and without disruption.

Just-in-time deliveries.

Located in a busy part of town, on two major city thoroughfares, the small project site had no space for material storage. That meant we had to schedule deliveries of our construction materials tightly, delivering “just in time” when they were needed.

More patrons, more YMCA.

What originally necessitated this 3-phase project was the city’s population growth, and the subsequent need to serve more patrons. Phase 1 expanded the wellness center. Phase 2, the parking lot.

Phase 3 expanded into a 23,000-square-foot addition with a new pool and water slide, as well as new HVAC and boiler systems. This addition also included women’s locker rooms, administration office, youth center, and multi-purpose room. A 10,000-square-foot remodel updated the men’s locker room, kids’ club, computer room, childcare, and racquetball court.
