The front entrance to St. Michael’s had to be completely demolished. This posed a unique set of challenges to St. Michael's patients, visitors and staff, as well as the Nor-Son team. To overcome the potential service disruption, we built a temporary entrance that was not only heated, but also outfitted with appropriate lighting and fire protection to get the public in and out safely. This temporary solution had to be so solidly crafted that it could last through an entire year of ongoing construction.
Communicate every detail to ensure safety and organization.
Nor-Son took extra precautions to ensure the safety and organization of the site during construction. Some of the steps we took included weekly meetings with department heads, creating plans eight weeks in advance to accommodate critical surgeries and patient care, and setting up a series of response calls that would allow us to react quickly to unexpected conflicts. Listening and responding to department heads about their concerns throughout the project kept everyone informed and safe.
