Our thorough pre-construction services helped the clinic save money and surpass pharmaceutical board requirements.
Although the clinic is named “Lakewood,” our biggest challenge was keeping the lake out. Poor soil conditions and an unforgiving water table required expert dewatering to keep the site dry before, during, and after construction.
An in-depth pre-construction review.
Before construction began, we met weekly with the project team—the owner, architect, and Nor-Son—to offer recommendations on how to make sure that the construction could easily fulfill the design. For example, we suggested simple reconfigurations of the windows and doors to support the architect’s vision and the owner’s budget.
Building to meet healthcare requirements.
As a public healthcare building, we anticipated many pre-inspections and construction reviews. Our extensive expertise in healthcare construction helped us at every step in the process, from making recommendations during pre-construction to explaining pharmaceutical board requirements to the project team during the build.
Ensuring subcontractors delivered Nor-Son quality and value.
We also acted as a general contractor during construction, and although we ended up self-performing the carpentry, we were responsible for hiring trades to complete the majority of the work. To be sure we could deliver the best value, we reviewed competitive bids in each category of work with an eye to value engineering. For instance, we were able to locate a better-qualified electrician who saved the clinic a substantial sum simply by recommending different fixtures.
