Maples on Gull
Nor-Son designed and built a finely crafted Minnesota lake home that addressed the needs of a growing family looking to leverage square feet without creating a castle.
Lofted above the four-car garage, an unexpectedly charming space welcomes weekend guests with a cozy kitchenette, an inviting living room, bedroom and bath.
- HomeownersCreate a space-conscious, welcoming home that puts comfort first.
The primary focus for Maples on Gull was to create a home large enough to accommodate a growing family without feeling like a castle. Our initial concepts followed The Not So Big House author Sarah Susanka's philosophy that "a house is much more than its size and volume, neither of which have anything to do with comfort." Room sizes and multi-use areas were designed to ensure that comfort was felt throughout the home.
A green building approach to bringing the outdoors inside.
We wanted the Maples on Gull home to reflect the natural beauty of the area while also respecting the precious Gull Lakes resources. We incorporated an Endless Pool® into the home's breezeway as unique water element while dormered windows offer spectacular light and sweeping views of the lake. In an effort to preserve nature, we sought out reclaimed Douglas fir and distressed cherry cabinetry to add to the Craftsman style character and natural warmth of the home.
