Nor-Son Inc. Build well. Be well.

Ten Aker Wood

Exquisite design, impeccable detail and unmatched custom craftsmanship hallmark this Vernacular Shingle Style home designed by TEA2 Architects and built by Nor-Son, Inc.

“The craftsmanship was of the highest caliber we have encountered. Nor-Son performed with a positive, can-do attitude on some very technically challenging areas, including compound curved construction, complex configurations and tight tolerances.”

An ultimate craftsmanship challenge.

A design based on East Coast Long Island summer estates, the home’s radius-based construction with round rooms and high towers presented the ultimate challenge to engineers, framers and finishers. Meticulous accuracy in assemblies was required to assure interior finishes would fit perfectly within the barrel vaulted ceilings, curved walls and sloping rooflines.

Flawless communication and coordination.

Working on a Fast Track design and construction schedule, it was imperative to develop a detailed process of communication between the owners, interior designer, architects and constructor. An electronic system of contact kept communication clear, consistent and immediate. All team members were updated simultaneously on daily and weekly communications to keep the construction progress flowing efficiently.

Preserving the natural beauty of the Ten Aker Estate.

The original driveway was abandoned and filled in with native plants and trees. A new winding path lined with New England fieldstone gives a full appreciation of the property’s natural beauty. Over 100 towering pines were protected during construction. The home was positioned on the site to utilize the natural contours of the land.
