Nor-Son Inc. Build well. Be well.

Eagle Point

Our clients wanted a home that fit the proud tradition of Ely log homes, only built according to modern green principles.

We appreciated the two-step process of design and then construction. During the design phase we were able to incorporate the features that we wanted and meet our target cost. We were very pleased that Nor-Son was able to deliver a high-quality home as designed and right on budget.

Lavished with natural detail that’s environmentally friendly.

Designing this home, we made an extra effort to reuse natural material. The logs that comprise the exterior were hand-crafted in Montana to our exact specifications. We harvested dead standing pines to lessen the environmental impact. Yellow pine reclaimed from tobacco barns forms the foundation for floors throughout the home. A tree felled to build the cabin was dried in a kiln and then reused as the countertop bar in the kitchen. The bar area that adjoins the theater room also features a similarly recycled pine.

Every room with a view.

The commitment to green building principles extended to reusing the plants on the site before construction. Each plant was carefully categorized to incorporate into the landscaping, harvesting much of the vegetation for transplanting. Towering windows capture panoramic lake views and frame the native trees and plants from any room in the home.

Constructed for today’s standards of interconnectivity and security.

A low-voltage security system uses a custom-designed touch pad that can change everything from the music in an individual room to the air temperature. The digital entertainment and home automation system also accesses a jukebox DVD player that serves seven TVs throughout the house. But not all of the technology we used is cutting-edge: the roof was based on a design popularized in World War II. Coated with rocks, the steel shingle provides protection from the forest fires that commonly threaten the region. Suitable for England during the Blitz, we found a new use for it here.
