Bringing the Comfort of Home to Healthcare
Friday, March 11, 2011:
WASHINGTON, D.C .– Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced that Nor-Son, Inc.’s work on the St. Gabriel's Community project in Bismarck, N.D., has earned the company an Eagle Award in the Healthcare - $10-$25 million category of ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards. In addition, Nor-Son was one of the select Eagle Award winners chosen to receive the Design-Build Special Award judged by ABC in conjunction with the Design-Build Institute of America that recognizes the top two design-build projects in 2010. Nor-Son’s representatives received the awards February 22 during the 21st annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Orlando, Florida.
“ABC congratulates Nor-Son for its exceptional work on the St. Gabriel's Community project,” said Michael D. Bellaman, ABC president and CEO. “This project is an outstanding example of the innovation and commitment to superior craftsmanship that embody merit shop construction.”
Nor-Son utilized its residential and healthcare expertise to design and build this 60,131 square foot senior care facility, working closely with the Benedictine Health System to formulate and cast their vision of a living community by creating quaint neighborhoods that provide a “household” model of care. Each neighborhood includes living, dining and family space which creates a comforting, warm environment that feels like home.
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects and safety programs. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year's panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, the American Institute of Architects, and the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.
